DRUG ABUSE (DOPING) IN THE WORLD OF SPORT

http://www.bookdepository.com/
The use of drugs in the sport world it is long documented history. the use of drugs in sports which is termed "Doping". Doping is the use of stimulants with the aim to increase the player's performance, this has  always been a huge problem as players use drugs in the believe that they enhance their chances of performing better that other players competing with them. The IAAF was the first International Sporting Federation in to prohibit doping back in 1928 by including it in their Handbook:

"doping is the use of any stimulant normally employed to increase the poser of action in athletic competition above the average. Any person knowingly acting or assisting as explained above shall be excluded form any place where this rules are in place or if he or she is a competitor be suspended for a time or otherwise from further participation in armature athletics under jurisdiction of its federation".

TYPES OF DRUGS USED IN SPORTS

There are so many types of drugs used in sports Peptide, Hormones analogue, Anabolic Epoietin alfa, Nandrolone and Tetrahydrogestinone are few and most of the drugs used in sports. And this drugs mostly help with increasing the size and muscles of the players, helps with growth, play a role in stimulating speed in the parts of the body including the brain making you less tired and the increase of red blood cells in the body. Most of this drugs are addictive and they could be of huge danger to a player when they are used on a regular base.

HOW DO THEY GET CAUGHT?

All over the world in any sporting code there is a random test taken on a regular base to check the health condition of players and check is they are involved in any doping. This is taken by the sample of a player's urine but this system is not effective in most cases as it is difficult for it to detect other types of drugs as some are naturally found in a human body, so this result in taking a blood sample of a player to detect if there are drugs consumed by the player. If the sportsperson is found guilty for doping he or she will face a harsh penalty.

PUNISHMENT SERVED FOR DOPING

Players found guilty for doping face a harsh penalty which was agreed by all sporting code, whereby 91 sporting codes signed The World Anti - Doping Agency code which came to action on the 1 of January 2012. If a player is caught doping intentionally he or she face a ban of four (4) years in participation of any sports and if it was by mistake from common medication the sportsperson will face the usual ban of two (2) years. The is a case whereby a sportsperson is found guilty for heavy doping like Maron Jones and her five medals at Sydney Olympics in this case the sportsperson face a double ban from any participation in sports.

Hopefully this will bring an end to doping as this brings shame to the name of sports. Sports is a fair game of entertainment and it has a lot on stake so cheating is not the best option to go with lets all say no to the use of drugs.

  3. Sports organisation must also come up with a strategy that will force sport teams to check thier players regularly whether are they using drugs or not, doing so will help to eliminate drig usage within the sporting industry.

  10. Yes it is not good but don`t you think if they can stop using drugs their good perfomance would drop? This is not something that the players have just started,if you still remember Maradonna used to play good football and he`d run untill the game ends. Don`t get me wrong I`m not trying to promote the use of drugs
