South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) is facing sponsorship crises as all four major sponsors of the football organisations are coming to an end. The question that everyone is asking is why did PSL leave the sponsorship negotiations so late? The PSL bosses said the is no use in pressing a panic button yet as they have everything under control regarding new contracts with the four official sponsorships.
PSL has four major sponsorships which they have been in a relationship for a while now and they include:
- Absa sponsoring the premier soccer league tittle
- MTN sponsoring the premier soccer league top 8 tournament
- Telkom sponsoring Telkom knockout tournament between all PSL clubs
- Nedbank sponsoring the Nedbank cup which include all PSL clubs and teams from the national division
From all this our sponsors only MTN has reached an agreement to continue with their relationship with PSL as it was announced on 30 Monday that the two have agreed on a 3 year deal with an optional of 2 years extension. The main issue is the league sponsor Absa whom signed a 5 year deal in 2007 of R500m spending R90m every season of football. A deal between this two is likely to happen as the is a crises in the world economy whereas PSL asking price looks to high for Absa.
They say make hay while the sun shines,so this means they must try to sort things in time
ReplyDeleteatleast now we know that MTN is back as the tournament started yesteday, and hopefully other sponsors will do the same.
ReplyDeleteI think it is important to consider sponsorships early because sponsorships are important in the psl and also helping teams to have financial.
ReplyDeleteWell completed deal,it was not gonna be easy for PSL to function without a sponsor that has been doing well in the South African topflight league.
ReplyDeleteI think it's time PSL changes its board memmbers we need new brooms that will come up with new i deat that will sweep away PSL's dirtyness. If needs be they can even go futher ointernational and fish more sponsors.
ReplyDelete@LUCKY agree with you on that maybe this current board members have to step down and make way for fresh ideas
ReplyDelete@zubenathi true that mate its best to be safe than sorry
ReplyDelete@marvelous true that mate they should have concluded this deals way before the begining of the season i dont see why did they leave it this late
ReplyDelete@vongani hopefully we will conclude them on time as we are facing a season without our main sponsor as no company is willing to match the amount which was paid by absa the economy situations around the world is taking a toll on everyone
ReplyDeleteThey will sign eventually because they do benefit, eventhough they are speculation about PSL increasing money, what i do agree they will end up having a recommded conclusion for both partners especially ABSA on sustaining their relationship and becoming one man standing.
ReplyDeleteif they informed the public not to press their panic buttons because they say to have things under control then it will prove us later on if they are renewing their contracts or not so that the public can see why they said to have things under control
ReplyDelete@trot they might not sign things are not looking that good because the has to be an increase on the on the sponsorship deal and from how things stand on the economy most people will are at the risk of losing thier so what would be wise spend money on sponsorship deals or secure people's jobs
ReplyDelete@nkhensani as much as they can inform us not tho panic they shuld also inform us on how the deal is going so far not to leave us on the dark
ReplyDeleteyes they will get more sponsors but it will take time
